Located near downtown Hinsdale, Learn To Make Music is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting music students with professional musicians who are experts in their craft.

Meet the Teacher

Jay Pike enjoys a busy and varied schedule that includes teaching, chamber music, and orchestral playing. Jay has been teaching violin and viola in the Chicago area for more than ten years; he teaches at the Merit School of Music, and also has private studios in Chicago and Morton Grove. Jay has done Suzuki training with Carrie Reuning-Hummel and Ed Kreitman.

Jay has performed with many ensembles around Chicago including the New Millennium Orchestra, Chicago Opera Theatre, Ensemble Dal Niente, and the Elgin and Rockford Symphonies. He is principal violist and founding member of the Memphis, TN based chamber orchestra the Eroica Ensemble, and has performed with the String Orchestra of the Rockies, the Britt Festival Orchestra and Montana Lyric Opera. Jay can also be heard on the 2009 release “A New Tide,” by indie-band Gomez.

Jay has a master of music degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, where he studied with Chicago Symphony violist Larry Neuman. While in school Jay was a regular member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He earned his bachelor degree in his home state, from the University of Montana, Missoula.
